Lessons in Sagada

April 18-20, 2008

Another one of Nel's "May-I-tag-along" vacation. This time with Vince, his sibs Vern and Abby, his cuz Jels and Ryan, and his Tita Jean. The 12 hours or so trip from Manila was all worth it.

Adventure started a little before 12 mn in the Victory Liner Cubao station. Our plan was set: get the 12 mn bus, arrive in Baguio by 6 am, board the 7 am bus to Sagada. We had the plan set and a quite confident assumption that there is an hourly trip to Baguio. However we were faced with a big uh-oh when we got there. Yes, there is a 12mn trip, however is already fully booked. Next available trip is at 3am. This will throw away our hour-by-hour schedule. Lesson number # 1: Reserve bus tickets!

Good thing we found Dagupan Bus Co. that has a 1230 trip. We are right on sched.
We arrived Baguio a little past 6am. Had a quick breakfast in Andok's and rode a taxi to the other bus station.

The bus ride to Sagada was bumpy and slide-y (Slide-y by definition is having our butts slide from the plastic-ed seats). Uncomfortable as it was, its view was breath taking.

Note also that we reached the highest point in the Philippine National Highway on our way to Sagada (and of course on our way back)!

We arrived Sagada around lunch time. Sagada was one quite lovely little town. Too lovely and too little that almost makes me want to burst out "Little town, such a quite village" ala Belle of Beauty and the Beast.

We checked-in in St. Joseph's Inn and had lunch in Masfarre.

Our cabin in St. Jo's

Our first Sagada outdoor adventure was the trek to "Little Falls". What started out as a relaxed walk along the highway while eating halo-halo with fresh avocados and macaroni (yes, you read me right, "macaroni") , turned into one heck of a trekking exercise. Well, we hiked the wrong trek! We walked on the steep side of the mountain not realizing that there is an easy trail on the side.

30 minutes or so of torture of trying to trek the seemingly untrekkable trail, we decided to abort the trek and looked for the easier trail. Easier trail we found. "Tsk Tsk Tsk".
